Founded in 1965, Domus Legis is Canada’s oldest student run social society for law students. It’s mission is to promote good fellowship among the students of the Faculty of Law, to encourage a high standard of professional work, and to assist in the advancement of its members. Over the past 45 years, Domus Legis has served as an influential social gathering point and has fostered a spirit of fellowship unrivalled among Canadian law schools. In addition to its renowned revelry, Domus Legis has been a home for passionate discussion and debate, a place where ideas flourish and innovations in the legal community are conceived. The Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic, for instance, can trace its roots to lively discussions at the Domus Legis. Today, the Society continues to flourish despite losing its house in 2004 .

The acquisition of another house, thereby returning the Society to its founding state, remains the chief objective of the Society. In the mean time Domus hosts a variety of events wine tastings, golf tournaments, theatre nights, hockey and others to help de-stress law students. And of course, we still do host our regular “Domus night”, in full force every Thursday at the Beer Market (above the Lower Deck). Despite this period of transition, Domus Legis continues to serve as the stage for exceptional, lasting, and legendary experiences here at the law school and is truly is the cornerstone of the school’s social life. I hope to see you all out as we begin another great year! Dan Huff President Domus Legis Society
